Student Spotlight: Eloise Runs Paris Half Marathon for Nepal Hospital

Eloise, a final-year medical student at King’s College London, has gone the extra mile (quite literally) to support the hospital where she will be completing her elective later this year. In March 2025, Eloise ran the Paris Half Marathon to raise funds for the Western Regional Hospital in Pokhara, Nepal, where she will be spending four weeks in the paediatrics department as part of her elective in 2026.

Over £1,500 Raised!

Thanks to the generosity of friends, family, and the wider medical student community, Eloise has already raised over £1,500 — all of which will go directly to the hospital in Pokhara. This is exactly the kind of initiative that reflects the ethos of Fair Trade Electives: students who don’t just observe, but who actively contribute to the communities they visit. The Western Regional Hospital serves a significant catchment area in the Gandaki Province of Nepal and is an established FTE partner site. Placements there offer students exposure to a wide range of clinical experiences shaped by the specific context and health priorities of the region. Eloise’s commitment to fundraising before she even arrives speaks volumes about her commitment to her elective placement.

“I ran the Paris Half Marathon in March for the hospital and have already collected over £1,500. All funds collected will go directly to the hospital. Any last-minute donations, no matter how small, make a difference and are greatly appreciated.”
