Our Partner Hospitals

Our partners play a vital role in delivering high-quality, impactful electives for students and directly benefit from your support.

Our Partners

If you are an English-speaking clinical unit or medical school in the Global South and have experience offering elective placements — be they clinical, quality improvement, or research-based — to senior medical students, you may want to consider joining the FTE team.

We are committed to developing a more ethical, considered, and beneficial elective framework based on fair trade principles. By partnering with FTE, you’ll join a growing network of elective providers recognised for quality, fair trade principles, and meaningful contributions to global health education.

Benefits of Being a Host

Hosting students through FTE provides numerous benefits for your institution and community:

Control and Flexibility
You decide how many students you wish to host, when to host them, and the activities you will offer. Whether it’s clinical placements, research projects, or community health programs, you tailor the experience to suit your capacity and focus.

Design Your Package
Hosts have full control over what is included in the elective package. You can offer options like airport pickups, accommodation, meals, and more. Likewise, you set the placement fee that reflects the value of the experience you provide.

Set Your Own Conditions
You can specify any conditions for students during the elective, such as required attendance at ward rounds, clinical restrictions, or participation in the local community.

How FTE Supports You

At FTE, we are committed to a partnership that is built on mutual respect and support. Here’s how we help our host organisations:

Promotion and Communication
We promote your placements to senior medical students with appropriate qualifications, communicate effectively and respectfully regarding student placements, and ensure you receive relevant student feedback.

Streamlining Administration
FTE takes on much of the administrative burden by handling inquiries, processing placement fees and managing student documentation. We will be the primary contact point for students and universities to make the process seamless.

Quality Assurance
We gather and manage student feedback through an annual QA report for each host site. We ensure a steady flow of feedback from students and act on concerns, all while promoting transparency.

Your Role as a Host Site

For the partnership to work effectively, we ask hosts to:

Communicate and Manage Placements
Hosts should provide timely and accurate information about placements and liaise with FTE on placement availability. We expect hosts to manage placements effectively, including pre-contact information, supervision, and guidance throughout the students’ stay.

Support Students
Ensure the well-being of students by conducting an initial planning meeting to establish learning objectives and addressing any concerns or providing emergency support if needed.

Engage in Quality Assurance
Participate in our annual feedback and QA cycle, completing questionnaires, and attending online meetings to review progress and improvements. Your input will help refine the experience for future students.

How to Become a Host

FTE is always looking to partner with passionate and committed healthcare organisations in the Global South. If you’re interested in becoming a host, here’s how the process works:

  • Initial Discussion: We’ll arrange a time to talk to you to understand your needs and discuss how hosting students can benefit your organisation.
  • Partnership Agreement: Once a partnership is agreed upon, we’ll sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlining mutual expectations and responsibilities.
  • Start Hosting: Begin receiving medical students for elective placements, with support from FTE throughout the process.
