Bwindi Community Hospital sits on the edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity and rich cultural landscape. The area is peaceful and rural, surrounded by forested hills, small villages and a vibrant community that values connection and hospitality.

Students can enjoy beautiful walking routes, gentle hikes, and opportunities to visit nearby villages and local craft markets. The forest is a centre of conservation work, and students often learn about community-based health, environmental stewardship and local public health initiatives during their stay.

Bwindi’s unique location means that wildlife is part of daily life — and it is not uncommon for students to spot mountain gorillas in the surrounding forest, as noted in the hospital’s volunteer guidance.

Beyond the hospital grounds, students can take part in community events, church services and social activities, offering a chance to build relationships, understand local culture and experience daily life in this remarkable part of Uganda.
