Fair Trade Electives is a new not-for-profit organisation offering a fresh, ethical approach to medical electives in the Global South.
We exist to challenge the status quo by centring equity, reciprocity, and fairness in all our placements. Built on fair trade learning principles, our model ensures that students learn with, not just in, host communities—and that those communities are equal partners in shaping the experience.
Our placements are currently open exclusively to senior British clinical medical students, and we are proud to be working with host institutions already delivering over 500 electives per year across multiple countries.
We are here to support students who want more than just an overseas clinical experience—students who want to learn responsibly, reflect deeply, and contribute ethically.
