We are thrilled to introduce Rebecca Shorter as the recipient of this year’s FTE funded elective.
Rebecca, a medical student from Leeds University, will be travelling to St Francis’ Hospital in Zambia this summer for an elective placement fully funded by Fair Trade Electives. Rebecca’s placement is a reminder of what FTE is about at its core: creating experiences that are genuinely beneficial to the student, the host community, and the wider healthcare system. We are looking forward to sharing updates from her time in Zambia.
Watch this space for a post-elective reflection from Rebecca when she returns later this year.

“Thank you so much for awarding me the FTE funded elective. I’m really excited about the opportunity to visit Zambia and gain insight into different challenges in healthcare to those I’ve experienced in the UK. The Fair Trade Electives team have been an amazing source of knowledge and support with organising this elective. I’m extremely grateful for all the work they do in creating sustainable and meaningful electives where everyone benefits, and I’m looking forward to an interesting and rewarding summer!” Rebecca Shorter, 2025 Golden Ticket recipient |
