Butaro is located in Burera District in Northern Rwanda, a rural and mountainous region known for its green hills and strong community networks. The setting is peaceful and structured, with a slower pace of life than Kigali. Students should expect a rural environment with limited nightlife but opportunities for walking, reflection and engagement with local community life.

Kigali is accessible by road for weekend travel, and Northern Rwanda offers access to natural sites including lakes and national parks. This placement suits students comfortable in a quieter, rural setting and interested in understanding district-level healthcare delivery.
